What?

The largest high school in Banteay Meanchey province. RCNUWC student Pheak Chheng (04-06) came to us from this school.

Where?

Sisophon, the capital of Banteay Meanchey province, in the northwest of Cambodia.

Number of volunteers reuired?

Five.

Other requirements?

Volunteers will be expected to pay for their own food and accommodation but this is not expensive (estimated $60 a month). Travel to Cambodia is also at the volunteers’ expense, as are visas and insurance.

Benefits?

Volunteers will be hosted by the High School and the Sopheak family. Volunteers will have the opportunity to learn Khmer, study local habits and customs and the Khmer educational system. There will be travel opportunities in the school breaks.

Minimum length of stay?

Six months, starting in August or September.

Volunteer tasks?

Teaching English, developing new activities (especially extra-academic, therefore skills / interests in art, sports, music, drama and so forth will be very welcome) for the students, and working with Cambodian English teachers to improve their pronunciation.

Details?

The school was established in 1955 by the former King of Cambodia. The largest high school in the province, up to 4000 students attend in any given year. This is the first year of this collaboration and has been set up by Pheak and his family in tandem with his former school.
